![]() ![]() While there may be a variety of technologies that offer the capabilities of deploying applications in the cloud, organizations should understand and plan for how to address the four key workflows: provisioning, security, networking and observability. The HashiCorp Cloud Operating Model is a blueprint for how organizations migrate to, and address the challenges of, a multi-cloud reality. Implications of multi-cloud requirements: Observability becomes an integral part of the DevOps toolchain that enables developers and operations teams to quickly detect, triage, troubleshoot and resolve performance issues – before such issues can impact end-users. This unification of Observability allows teams to understand the interdependencies of cloud services and components. In the dynamic, multi-cloud world, siloed and point monitoring tools transition to unified and ubiquitous Observability across the entire stack - cloud infrastructure, runtime orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, cloud managed services such as Amazon RDS or Google Cloud Pub/Sub, etc., and business applications. However, the mere availability of data doesn’t deliver an enterprise-grade Observability solution. Observability solutions use metrics, traces and logs as data types to understand and debug distributed systems. DevOps teams determine what data to generate, collect, aggregate, summarize and analyze to gain meaningful and actionable insights. Observability makes investigating and diagnosing problems easier the more observable a system, the quicker we can understand why it’s acting up and fix it.įundamentally, Observability is about everything ‘data’. Observability is a measurement of the quality of software, services, platforms and products that allows us to understand how systems are behaving. Leverage higher-level abstractions such as Kubernetes that can provide application portability across multiple hybrid clouds consider service mesh that can decouple applications from cloud-provider specific network services and act as a system-wide source for Observability data Get visibility into identity and resource access control establish audit trails to meet compliance requirements Enterprises must:Īchieve unified, real-time Observability across the entire cloud stack and cloud operationsĪdopt automation in provisioning Observability alongside cloud infrastructure and services To unlock the fastest path to value in the cloud, organizations must have a strategy to unify and automate Observability across the cloud stack. The challenge begins with a lack of deep visibility into applications, cloud infrastructure and services across multi-cloud and hybrid environments before, during and after cloud migrations. In fact, in some cases, siloed approaches in the hybrid, multi-cloud world may result in more complexity, slower innovation and higher costs than it did before cloud migration. As explained in the Cloud Operating Model, moving to cloud provides opportunities to rapidly deploy dynamic services, achieve practically unlimited scale, improve developer agility, and bolster application resilience.ĭespite the promise of transformational results, enterprises struggle to gain the full value of multicloud environments. As organizations strive to improve customer experience, increase innovation velocity and rapidly scale digital applications, the cloud becomes a key initiative. Digital market shifts are propelling organizations in every industry to adopt cloud. ![]() ![]() ![]() Questioning “Good” and “Evil” in Death Noteĭeath Note paints a world where everything can be good or evil and asks us to think about how we make the decision about which is which. Inefficiencies are reflected in frequent power outages, technical and commercial losses, over-staffed state-owned utilities, and abuse of market power by private generators. The region should have the cheapest electricity in the developing world, but instead has the most expensive, mostly due to inefficiencies.įirms and households in the region pay substantially more for the electricity they consume than it would cost to produce it. Latin America and the Caribbean has the cleanest electricity generation matrix of all developing regions, mainly due to the abundance of hydropower. Technology also brings the opportunity to transform the power sector. The biggest transformation could come from accelerated digitization, which could lead to greater dynamism in financial intermediation, international trade and labor markets. In the medium term, the gains could be larger than the losses. “ The pandemic has triggered a process of creative destruction that may lead to faster growth but may also amplify inequality within and across countries in the region.”įor example, hospitality and personal services may suffer long-term damage, but information technology, finance and logistics will expand. “ As economies rebound this year, some sectors and firms will gain and others will lose,” said Martín Rama, World Bank Chief Economist for the Latin America and the Caribbean region. At the same time proactive measures helped debtors and reduced the risk of financial crises. Most countries in the region ran substantial budget deficits since the beginning of the pandemic, with the additional spending devoted to strengthening health systems, providing transfers to households, and helping firms. Borrowing from abroad actually increased, which helped mitigate the economic and social impact of the Covid-19 crisis. In addition, capital markets remained open to most countries in the region. Remittances to the region are up compared to before the pandemic, which is very important to several countries in the Caribbean and Central America. This is good for exporters of agricultural and mining products. Most commodity prices are now higher than before the Covid-19 crisis, partly due to China’s quick rebound. Global trade in goods held up relatively well, despite the sharp drop of trade in services, especially tourism. Less learning and lower employment are bound to reduce future earnings, while high public and private debt may create stress for in financial sector and slow the recovery.ĭespite the challenges, there are some bright spots.
